Book of the Week- Unravel Me by: Tahereh Mafi

So I received a suggestion about doing a book of the week or book of the month. I thought it was an amazing idea so I decided I will start doing both. At the beginning or end of every week I will discuss the current book I’m reading or going to read and why. I’m currently reading Unravel Me by: Tahereh Mafi and it’s the second book in the Shatter Me Trilogy. This series was suggested to me by my brother who read it and loved it. The minute I picked up this series I was in love. Tahereh Mafis writing is beautiful. It’s something that I’ve never experienced. Everything she writes is descriptive and full of imagery. The writing is poetic and rhythmic; the author knew how to make an ordinary situation extraordinary by using her gorgeous prose in a very beautiful way. She even knows how to beautify even those little moments that most would just gloss over and yet she makes you notice them. She also did a great job with character development. I always find that some new authors have trouble with that in their first book than fix it in the second. But that wasn’t the case for this trilogy. Mafi created such strong and developed characters that there was no question about who they were or what their situation was. Some of the things that I think are beautiful about this book a lot of people complain about. Throughout her book she puts lines through words or sentences. She does this because some parts of the book are like it’s coming from the characters mind and we all know when thoughts are racing. You think of something then change your mind and think of something else or a different way to say it and that’s the purpose behind the crossed out words. I personally still enjoyed it because it was like being in the characters stream of consciousness. Those are just the things other people complained about. I thought it gave the book a different look. I recommend this series to EVERYONE. It is truly amazing and different. It’s probably nothing like you’ve ever read before. In the midst of all the dystopian series that are out now this one is something new. My number one favorite is Divergent and this is now my second favorite. That says a lot because I’m super critical.

    1. That’s exactly how I feel. I hope she writes a new series soon.

I believe she’s writing another book (not sure about series) called Furthermore. It’s on goodreads.

      2. Thanks for telling me. I just read the description on good reads and it sounds good. Again her writing is perfection.
