Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins Review

Hello Bookworms,

In anticipation for the the release of Lady Renegades the final book in the Rebel Belle series I bring to you a review of Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins. This is the first book in a trilogy which also includes Miss Mayhem and the final book being released on April 5th, 2016 Lady Renegades.

Synopsis (Goodreads)

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can’t get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she’s charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper’s least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David’s own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y’all beg for more.

Now lets get into it. I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars on Goodreads, but in my mind it’s a solid 3.5 out of 5. Rebel Belle is considered a paranormal romance This is a great story and this first book is really about developing the characters and creating the premise for the plot. We are introduced to Harper Price who is your typical Southern Belle whose goals consisted of being Homecoming Queen, the star of Cotillion, and an overachiever. Until her life was turned upside down. Rachel Hawkins writing is very straight to the point which is why I think this book is great for a younger reader.  It’s definitely something fun, light, and easy to read. Despite me saying that I will continue to read the series because I actually enjoyed the story and I hope that in Miss Mayhem there is more action throughout the book instead of just in the end. Who doesn’t like a badass female lead??

This is one of my favorite quotes because it shows you the kind of person Harper Price is; she doesn’t want her life to be interrupted by things that will cause her planned life to be turned into chaos. It was all because she forgot Coral Shimmer at home. I don’t want to give anything away so you have to pick up this book and check it out for yourself. See how Harper progresses throughout the book.

One more quote before I bring this all to a close. I just loved this because friendship plays a big role in this book. Rachel Hawkins really shows the reader how navigating high school can be a real challenge and how friendships can either help you or get in the way. The way this book ends really leaves you wondering how is this going to work?and what’s going to happen next? It’s a real plot twist I wasn’t expecting which left me wanting more. Thanks to Penguin Random House for sending me Miss Mayhem. I won’t have to wait to see what happens next and I will bring you a review on that one too.

I recommend this books to EVERYONE. It’s a funny, well thought out, and heartfelt. Rachel Hawkins describes it as Legally Blonde meets The Terminator. You get a little bit of everything. Pick this up, grab some coffee or tea, and enjoy this read. If you’ve read it or plan on reading it. Let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear them.

Happy Reading!!!
