Hey Book Lovers,
I know this is a week late, but I still wanted to get this up. I had the pleasure of attending the Leigh Bardugo Launch Event for Crooked Kingdom at the Strand Bookstore in NYC. This is the first time I’ve been to an event like this and it was amazing. This event took place in the rare book room at the Strand and being in that room alone is always a pleasure. It’s filled with beautiful old books that can no longer be found anywhere else. If you’re ever in NYC you should check it out.
We were in line around 5:15pm and there were already 77 people in front of us. Good thing we decided not to grab food beforehand. We were taken inside at 6:30. Unfortunately there ere limited seats so we had to stand, but for Leigh Bardugo it was worth it. There was a Q&A session; moderated by Jessethereader. For those of you that don’t know who he is he is a youtuber. He has a booktube channel which if you’re interested in you should check it out.
This wasn’t just an event about the book she was releasing. Hearing Leigh Bardugo speak was truly amazing and inspiring. I wanted to insert the two videos but I can’t do it here. I didn’t want to video the whole time, because I feel when we focus on taking pictures or videos for an event we miss the chance to really listen. One thing she said that really stuck with me was “There’s no expiration on your talent”. Which I feel is something that needs to be said more often. There aren’t timelines we need to have followed by a certain age. Life is about figuring things out and enjoying them while you do it.
Another thing she touched on was movie adaptations which I thought was great because more then ever books are being turned into movies. She was really honest about how she felt about it. It’s something I agreed with because there have been a ton of adaptations done poorly. It’s nice to see an author that would stay true to what they believed, because she said too many times people try to come in and change the story because they think it needs to be fixed. Then it ends up being something the author never intended.
Before I end I just to say it was such a great experience meeting Leigh Bardugo. She is really honest and humble. I love how real she is. She’s one of the few authors we completely fangirled over. Our hearts were racing before meeting her even though this is our 2nd time meeting her. We told her how much we loved her books and her outfit/hair. She told us how much work it is to upkeep silver hair. It was like we were talking to a friend.
Thank you for this amazing Duology and we will see you again for Wonder Woman.
