Monstress, Vol. 2: The Blood by Marjorie Liu

Hello Book Lovers,

I know this is going up late, but better late then never. I hope you all enjoyed your Sunday.  I finished this graphic novel yesterday morning and I loved it twice as much as the first one.

MONSTRESS is back! Maika, Kippa, and Ren journey to Thyria in search of answers to her past… and discover a new, terrible, threat.

If you haven’t read Volume 1 then you’re definitely missing out on something unique and different. I thought this one was event better then the first, and  the artwork was absolutely beautiful. A lot of the unanswered questions raised in Vol 1 were answered and expanded on in Volume 2. Monstress is rewarding in its complexity and even when you don’t understand what’s happening at least you have the gorgeous art to look at. At times the story can be a bit dense, but worth the time to read.

Maika’s journey to discover who or what she is and what her mother was planning continues in this volume and takes her to the Isle of Bones. Both Kippa and Master Ren are back at her side again. We meet some interesting new characters. Find out more about the Old Gods, the Shaman-Empress, and the wars among the Ancients.

I definitely recommend this graphic novel to everyone, because it’s something different that I believe everyone will find some enjoyment in. There will be more reviews coming soon. Being that this is part of a larger series I wanted to keep this short and simple.
